If you are a Book-Lover (Bibliophile), a Girl who does not have a ' Best friend ' or ' Boy friend ', who does not have anyone to share her sentiments, apprehensions, despair, glee, amusements, anything and everything with, who basically chooses to be a Loner, who is reclusive, then BOOKS are perfect for you!
I am a Bibliophile myself; I am single and I do have Best friends, a hell lot of friends and an amazing family, but books are my Best friend too. Basically, they are every Girl’s Best friend, no matter how many PEOPLE she’s surrounded with. And here’s why -
1. Emotions! Emotions! EMOTIONS!
If you are emotionally hurt or in need of an emotional gratification, trust me there’s nothing better than a GOOD BOOK! Nothing can make you feel content like a Good Book does. Just read, smile, believe, imagine, think and then have a good night’s sleep.
Like Neil Gaiman in Caroline said, "Fairy tales are more than true : not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."
2. They always have time for you. They have got zero excuses.
Remember your friend who couldn’t make it to your birthday party? Who couldn’t bunk a single lecture with you for the movies? Who couldn’t be a part of your holiday trip? Who always had excuses? Not to worry. The next best thing about BOOKS is that they always have time for you. They don’t make excuses nor do they avoid you. They will love you back.
Just as John Green in An Abundance of Katherines said, "Books are the ultimate Dumpees : put them down and they’ll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back."
3. They tell you the best stories. The best ever.
Bed-time stories, Romance, Fiction, Biography, Fantasy, Comics, Mythology, Memoirs, Sagas, Philosophy, Science-Fiction and Poems etc. There’s something for everyone. You will get to know the best stories through BOOKS for sure.
4. They are reliable. Always.
One of the best things is that you can always depend on a GOOD BOOK when you want to feel inspired, empowered and enlightened. Some words have such positive connotations, that they make you sagacious; they have all the answers and they do make you forget all your problems. They are such an awesome stress-buster.
5. They are never jealous of you. They never judge you.
Next best thing is that Books are not judge mental unlike your peers, your classmates, relatives, acquaintances or just any other random unfamiliar person. They will never be jealous of your abilities / flairs / expertise / panache, verve, looks, popularity and success. They will never make fun of your imperfections / flaws.
6. They make you a better person. You become wiser with them.
Whatever the circumstances have been, stories you may have and hardships you have faced, they make you a stronger person, wiser, cogent, more plausible, so much so that they make you pursue your dreams fervently. Same is when you have the Good Books. They make you a much better person altogether.
As Jane Austen said, "The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid."
7. They are portable. They can travel with you anywhere and everywhere.
You can keep your books on a shelf. You can carry them to the library, to office, to home, to your Holiday trips, anywhere and everywhere! You can have a cup of coffee or even dinner with them. They won’t mind. They just don’t. Admit it, everyone needs such a Friend.
8. They help you explore new stuff. They increase your knowledge.
Planning a Road Trip? Or Voyage? Summer Trip? Then, do carry your Favorite Books, Travel books, Catalogues, Magazines, Journals and stuff with you in case you want to know about some more exotic places that you would like to explore. You can also plan trips at home with their help or enjoy reading them just to kill plain boredom. Plus, they increase your acumen and knowledge, for the record.
Cicero said , "A room without books is like a body without a soul."
William Styron in Conversations with William Styron said, "A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading."
9. They never fight or argue with you. They are always gentle.
Remember the last time you had an argument or tiff with your friend and it just got bitter and bitter? Heart wrenching, right? Well, in case of books its nothing like that. They don’t fight or argue. They don’t cause brawls or throw tantrums. They are always gentle no matter what.
"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." - Charles William Eliot
One more amazing thing about Books is that they don’t hate you. They will not leave you or betray you. They will not back stab you. You will always find them by your side. At your shelf, your desk, your bed and if there is anything that they will make you is resonant and they will make your mind get rid of the entire fracas. They will just mellow you down.
Just like Ernest Hemingway said, "There is no friend as loyal as a book."
"What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though." - J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
Anyways, the above quote tells my story. It happens to me every time I read an amazing book.
